3. Drugs including diuretics, cortisone and aminophylline lower the body's Mg.
4. Mg improves insulin and cholesterol metabolism hence may be helpful for insulin resistant Type II diabetics. It may also lower cholesterol helpful for overweight diabetics.
5. Studies show Mg important for calcium (Ca) uptake to help prevent osteopenia (initial phase) or osteoporosis.
6. Other benefits include treating PMS, mitral valve prolapse, kidney stones, hypertension and migraine headaches. Deficiency include heart problems, apathy, weakness, depression, poor memory and other ailments. The reason for this is that Mg figures in over 1000 enzyme reactions in our body.
7. Sources include: chard (150 mg/cup), pinto beans (95 mg/cup), avocadoes (70 mg ea.), and oatmeal (54 mg/cup).
8. Overdose can cause diarrhea due to laxitive effect of drawing water into the colon. Organic sources (not magnesium sulfate - Epsom salts) may prevent this problem and some believe will improve uptake.
